How to save big on electric bills this summer
1. If you have an electric furnce (or old central air unit), broken or working that you don't use over summer, turn off the breaker to them in the breaker box. These use several units kW per day even in standby mode, more than most fans and lights run all day long
2. If you have rooms in the house you don't use or use seldom, find out their breaker numbers and turn them off at the breaker box
3. Unplug everything if not using, you can plug them in for use when using specially washer, dryer, microwave etc, these use a lot of electricity in standby mode. A little work/inconvenience can go a long way over months in saving hundreds of dollars
4. If you don't need to cool the entire house, don't use central air, use window ac, low btu, evaporative coolers and smaller 12v fans in place of ceiling fans
5. Use mylar blankets as curtains over windows, they reflect back heat to keep the rooms cooler
6. Run the fridge at a low number and shift ice from freezer to fridge to reduce compressor running time, avoid opening it often.
7. Minimize use of bright lights at night, they are bad for health, interfere with melatonin signalling and ruin the sleep cycle.
8. Use usb 5v and 12 v appliances where possible, with ac adapters, they are generally low energy consumption, energy efficient, compared to ac appliances, and they can be charged, often operated by cheap $15 solar panels with batteries and powebanks as well.
Other ideas, please share, the big electric companies won't like it, but that is what we want to stop theft of people's resources ny big corporations.
If you save thousands doing this per year, as some of you will, send generous donations to "dr.grouf@gmail.com" on PayPal.
Go to bed with wet hair to stay cool overnight. Or use anytime:). Can also put cool packs on major arteries, like under the armpits and on both sides of the groin area.
My family is from the Deep South-this is something my great grandmother taught to sleep better in summer: have a fan on at night in the bedroom, generously dampen the sheets (she used linen sheets because they are more loosely woven & air circulates through the holes- they last forever if you line dry) and repeat as needed.
Thanks Doc!
